LSI Logic's Time-to-Market Leadership Enables SAS Diagnostic Tool

LSI Logic Corporation today announced that its Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) Host Bus Adapters (HBA) with Fusion-MPT (Message Passing Technology) architecture are now fully supported within Tabernus, LLC's suite of diagnostic and testing software. LSI Logic's SAS3040X HBAs and Fusion-MPT architecture have been leveraged by Tabernus to create a SAS testing solution that will allow customers to ensure that their new products meet SAS quality, reliability and compliance requirements. Leveraging LSI Logic's SAS time-to-market leadership, Tabernus has worked with LSI Logic to enable their industry partners and customers with their SAS product development and testing solutions. Tabernus' NorthstarADT and GeminiQT product offerings will help storage device manufacturers, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), field service technicians, and other third party vendors, to test SAS storage devices and to achieve rapid and cost-effective compliance with the new SAS technology paradigm. "Tabernus is excited to see our research and development initiatives with LSI Logic come to successful fruition," said Michael Miller, chief technology officer, Tabernus. "Now, not only will Tabernus be fully compliant and supportive with the new SAS storage devices, we will also enable our customers to reap LSI Logic's competitive advantage in the marketplace by meeting compliance deadlines and offering reliable, user-friendly products to their end-customers ahead of any other competitor in the marketplace." SAS technology enables SCSI interface solutions beyond Ultra320 to the next-generation Direct Attach Storage (DAS) enterprise server, storage systems, and high-performance workstation markets while retaining device-level backward compatibility. The SAS standard defines a device-level enterprise storage interface incorporating SCSI command sets, serial point-to-point interconnections, dual porting, increased addressability and the ability to scale to small form factors. Because the SAS physical layer is compatible with Serial ATA (SATA), users will have the choice of populating their systems with SAS or SATA hard disk drives, or a combination of both. "As one of the SAS pioneers, LSI Logic is pleased to work with Tabernus to bring products to market that further the advancement of the technology," said David Steele, director of product planning and management for LSI Logic's Storage Standard Products division. "The combination of our first to market SAS ICs and HBAs, and Tabernus' advanced diagnostic software will allow OEMs and system builders to confidently deliver SAS solutions to end customers." LSI Logic offers a complete portfolio of SAS products, including 4-port and 8-port SAS controller ICs, (the LSISAS1064 and LSISAS1068), and the LSISASx12, which is a 12-port SAS expander, all of which use the Fusion-MPT architecture ( http://lsilogic.com/fusion ) to speed OEM development time and increase reliability. The company will also supply a full line of MegaRAID SAS adapter cards and RAID on Motherboard (ROMB) solutions. Tabernus' comprehensive suites of products are available for a broad range of testing and other uses across multiple industries ( http://tabernus.com/ ).
