GlobusWORLD Announces Most Comprehensive Enterprise Grid Event

GlobusWORLD today announced the most comprehensive enterprise Grid event that an IT professional can attend in 2005. GlobusWORLD 2005 (Feb. 7-11; Boston) will feature a full roster of technical Grid content including: tutorials (from beginner- to advanced-level); enterprise Grid panels moderated by Network World, CIO Magazine, and Computerworld; essential Grid standards updates; and keynotes by leading Grid pioneers, vendors and end users. GlobusWORLD is the only event that bridges the gap between cutting edge research and enterprise Grid applications. GlobusWORLD 2005 sponsors include leading vendors, such as Data Synapse, HP, IBM, Intel, MCNC, Nortel Networks and Sun Microsystems; as well as leading research organizations, such as Argonne National Laboratory, Global Grid Forum, ISI, and NCSA. Media sponsors include Computerworld, InfoWorld, and Network World. "There has been a major evolution in Grid over the last two years," said GlobusWORLD program co-chair, Ian Foster. "What started as a high performance computing project in research and academia ten years ago has grown into one of the most exciting IT architecture progressions in the enterprise. We're seeing instances in which commercial-level deployments are achieving great results in terms of performance and cost savings, but there are also some hurdles that need to be addressed before Grid begins to reach its full potential in the enterprise. GlobusWORLD is the center of these essential discussions taking place between the open source Grid community, Standards bodies and Grid Vendors -- and is the premier place for enterprise IT professionals to gain hype-free, practical Grid knowledge for their enterprise." GlobusWORLD 2005's "Enterprise Grid" track will turn the spotlight on the essential information that the enterprise IT professional needs for practical decision-making in his or her organization. In addition to investigating technical Grid issues, this track will take a close look at Grid's relationship to other emerging enterprise trends, through discussions on topics such as virtualization, utility computing, service-oriented architectures (SOA), application performance issues, data center automation and service level agreements. At GlobusWORLD 2005, Network World editor in chief, John Dix, will lead a panel of technical-level professionals from Cisco, HP, IBM, Intel and SAP, investigating how Grid will affect the future of the end-to-end network. CIO Magazine technology editor, Chris Lindquist, will lead a panel of early adopter CIOs from the financial, manufacturing and publishing industries -- highlighting "lessons learned." Participating on the CIO panel will be the CIO of Bowne & Co., the world's largest financial printer, and the CIO of Burlington Coat Factory, a major national retailer.
