Glimmerglass Wins 2004 Rookie of the Year Award

The Entrepreneurs Foundation announced that Glimmerglass is the winner of its 2004 Rookie of the Year award for the company's creative and ongoing support of local community programs. The annual award is given to the company that has made the most demonstrable strides toward incorporating community involvement into company culture, with tangible, measurable results. The recipient of this year's award was chosen by the Foundation's board of directors including Gib Myers, Mayfield and EF founder and board chairman; Diane Solinger, executive director, EF; Bob Ackerman, Allegis Capital; Yogen Dalal, Mayfield; Debra Engel and Greg Gallo, Gray Carey Ware and Friedenrich; Lorraine Haritan, Apptera; Peter Hero, Community Foundation Silicon Valley; Penny Herscher and Paul Vais, Apax Partners and Don Wood, Vanguard Ventures. "Glimmerglass has channeled its greatest strength, its people, to benefit the community. The partnership that is developing between Glimmerglass employees and the Hayward Shoreline Interpretive Center represents how companies and communities both can benefit when they work together. The Glimmerglass team is stronger because of the projects and HSIC knows that they can rely on Glimmerglass for support," stated Diane Solinger, executive director of Entrepreneurs Foundation. Glimmerglass has worked with the Entrepreneur's Foundation since 2002, becoming involved in programs including a "thistle removal and clean-up" and is currently organizing a 5K Walk and Run benefiting the Hayward Shoreline Interpretive Center (HSIC). Glimmerglass employees also recently built a 'windbreak' for the annual HSIC Father's Day Campout. Glimmerglass President and CEO Mark Housley said that Glimmerglass has had great fun and a terrific turnout by dividing its staff into teams and approaching each event as a bit of friendly competition. "Whether it's creating the world's best performing photonic switching products or pulling the most thistle weeds, our people attack it with the same intensity," said Housley. "We probably had some of the best minds in the valley creating the windbreak for the campout, and I'm glad to say that the winning design worked perfectly, came in on time and under budget. We are honored to receive this award and look forward to our continued involvement with the Foundation and community events."
