Teradyne to Demonstrate Error-Free High-Speed Data Transmission
Teradyne, Inc. (NYSE: TER) Connection Systems Division (TCS), the industry leader in high-performance connection systems, and Lattice Semiconductor Corporation (NASDAQ:LSCC), the inventor of in-system programmable(TM) (ISP(TM)) logic products, will demonstrate a real-world solution for designers of high-performance backplanes. The reference platform utilizes Teradyne's GbX(TM) connector and Lattice's ORT82G5 transceiver to achieve error-free data transmission from 600 Mbps up 3.7 Gb/s on an FR-4 backplane with total trace lengths of up to 36 inches. The two companies will exhibit at DesignCon East, April 5-7, 2004 at the Boxborough Holiday Inn in Boxborough, Massachusetts. "The Lattice FPSC devices, including the ORT82G5, deliver a robust and proven solution for adding integrated FPGA programmability to the design requirement for high-speed SERDES interconnect signaling. Our very high-quality SERDES jitter and eye characteristics are best demonstrated with superior interconnect systems and backplane designs. Teradyne's GbX connector system and backplane fabrication capabilities provide a best-in-class transport mechanism for these signals, yielding designs and demonstrations of the highest possible quality," added Dan Schaffer, Area Technical Manager for Lattice Semiconductor. "Our goal is to deliver robust, integrated solutions that meet demanding requirements for performance, reliability and value," said Tom Pitten, Engineering and Marketing Manager at Teradyne Connection Systems. "The work we have done with Lattice Semiconductor over the past several years continues to support this goal and to provide system designers with proven solutions to their most challenging designs." Teradyne's GbX connector is a high-density optimized differential connector with a choice of configurations for application flexibility. With increased density, exceptional impedance matching and low crosstalk, GbX enables data rates of 6.25 Gb/s with ample design margin. The company recently announced the GbX L-Series connector, which is an open pin-field version of GbX and enables designers to easily create custom connector configurations to achieve specific performances needs and cost targets. Lattice's ORT82G5 is the world's only FPGA SERDES transceiver with integrated ASIC based support for XAUI and Fiberchannel functionality, delivering demonstrated programmable data rates up to 3.7 Gb/s. The ORT82G5 is a field programmable System-on-a-Chip (FPSC) that contains 8 x 3.125 SERDES transceivers, built-in clock recovery, programmable per channel pre-emphasis, 8b/10b support, more than 400K of FPGA system gates along with many other features.
