Marvell Introduces 10 Gigabit Ethernet Prestera Switch
Marvell, a technology leader in the development of extreme broadband communications and storage solutions, today announced the release of its Prestera(TM)-98EX135, 10 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) packet processor with advanced routing and security capabilities. The latest addition to Marvell's technology proven Prestera product family will target enterprise aggregation switching applications with improved scalability capabilities required by today's system manufacturers for building stackable and chassis based multi-layer switches. When combined with the Company's market-leading Alaska(R)-X physical layer solutions, the Prestera-98EX135 is capable of supporting all commercially available 10 GbE Interfaces. The Prestera-98EX135 device offers the industry's best routing capacity, advanced link aggregation features, extensive traffic classification and Policy Control Lists (PCL) for traffic filtering. The routing capabilities have been extended to 256,000 subnets for better scalability, allowing customers to deploy Prestera solutions across the network, from the wiring closet through the backbone. New security and reliability features are supported, such as PCL for classification, filtering and policing network flows with assigned priorities and allocated bandwidth for efficient network management. "The new Prestera-EX switch achieves a new level of system integration ensuring that this industry leading switch architecture remains both feature rich and cost effective," stated, Paul Valentine, Marvell's product director for Prestera Switches. "This new switch meets the market's demand for advanced scalability, security and reliability. Customers have already begun to deploy the product." The Marvell Prestera-98EX135 10 GbE packet processor integrates 10 GbE MAC/PHY and a 10 Gigabit per second (Gbps) uplink bus for uncompromising non-blocking performance and system scalability. The uplink bus connects to Prestera-FX for chassis and stacking systems up to 128 ports of 10-GbE. The multi-layer switching features include line rate Layer-2 bridging, Layer-3 routing, Layer 1-4 filtering and QoS. On the line side, the Prestera-98EX135 integrates 10GbE Attachment Unit Interface (XAUI) SerDes making it an ideal solution for interfacing with XENPAK, XFP and CX-4 modules. The 98EX135 architecture integrates an expandable packet buffer memory interface needed for high-performance 10Gbps uplinks in network backbone. Marvell is Raising the Technology Bar(TM) once again by being the first to go to full production on 10 GbE packet processing with such an advanced feature set. It is the scalability and flexibility of the Prestera architecture that has enabled the rapid deployment of the most sophisticated, lowest power and highest value merchant silicon solutions for OEM's in the Metro access, Enterprise and SOHO/SMB market. The Marvell Prestera-98EX135 10-GbE packet processor now adds to the industry leading line up of Prestera based products, which provide end-to-end coverage for customers producing 1 - 48 port Fast Ethernet, GbE and Terabit products.
