Cognos Announces Support For IBM's New DB2 Cube Views

BURLINGTON, Mass. -- Cognos, a world leader in business intelligence (BI) and corporate performance management, today announced its continued support for IBM DB2 Universal Database, by including support for IBM's new DB2 Cube Views. "By supporting the DB2 information management software family, including IBM's new DB2 Cube Views, we have and will continue to succeed in attracting and retaining a huge customer base. We offer an optimized and uniquely integrated infrastructure - significantly lowering the cost and development time to produce high performance business intelligence solutions," said Patrick O'Leary, Cognos vice president of strategic alliances. "The many thousands of Cognos customers worldwide who have implemented IBM DB2 as their enterprise data management solution are testament to the reliability, robustness, and unsurpassed performance that DB2 provides." Cognos' business intelligence solutions - built upon the crucial database infrastructure layer provided by IBM DB2 - offer the benefit of flexible, intuitive data access tools integrated with an efficient, automated data management process. A typical Cognos-DB2 solution includes components from Cognos Enterprise BI Series 7, which brings together a broad range of BI capabilities including managed reporting, analysis, ad hoc query, scorecarding, visualization, ETL, and event detection. As part of this integration, Cognos Enterprise BI Series 7 will now include an automated metadata bridge that will automatically generate a Cognos BI metadata model from a DB2 multi-dimensional model. In addition, during extensive testing in IBM's labs, Cognos' Analytic Applications saw a 90% performance increase for some business queries. "When combined with IBM, Cognos offers a powerful business intelligence solution to our mutual customers," said Karen Parrish, vice president, Worldwide Business Intelligence Solutions, IBM Corporation. "Cognos' continued support of our initiatives allows our customers to derive business value throughout the enterprise, extending the reach of business intelligence solutions into new and emerging markets. IBM and Cognos will continue to empower companies to make timely, informed decisions that are critical to their bottom-line success." In April, Cognos and IBM announced a multi-year global agreement to market comprehensive business intelligence offerings. Under the terms of the agreement, IBM and Cognos will jointly market and sell integrated solutions to numerous verticals and lines of business such as sales, marketing, and human resources. The IBM and Cognos offering makes use of IBM DB2* Universal Database, DB2 Warehouse Manager, DB2 OLAP Server, IBM WebSphere* Internet infrastructure software and IBM WebSphere Portal software, and is available on IBM eServer pSeries and xSeries systems.
