IBM Extends Lead in U.S. Server Sales

ARMONK, N.Y.--IBM today announced that the just released Gartner Dataquest Servers Quarterly Statistics show that IBM extended is leadership in U.S. server sales by growing in all key segments in the first quarter of 2003 as compared to the same quarter last year(1). According to Gartner, overall server revenue in the U.S. was flat for the first quarter. Nonetheless, Gartner's analysis shows IBM increasing U.S. server revenues by 7 percent to capture 30.9 percent share, an increase of 1.9 points of share over the same quarter a year earlier. In UNIX servers, IBM was the only vendor in the top three to grow revenue. The Gartner study shows that IBM gained 7.5 points of share in UNIX servers in the first quarter compared to the same quarter a year earlier. According to Gartner, IBM grew Intel-based server revenue in the U.S. by 23 percent and gained over a point of share in the first quarter as compared to the same quarter a year earlier.
