Grid Computing Research Scientist

This Research Scientist/Research Associate position at the Texas Advanced Computing Center will enhance the research, development, and support activities in Grid computing for the UT academic research community, NPACI user community, and UT academic, government, and industrial partners. Position Responsibilities: * Initiate and conduct research and development activities to produce new Grid computing technologies that enhance the impact of high performance computing (HPC), scientific visualization (SciVis), and massive data storage resources in computational research. * Obtain external funding to enhance TACC's Grid computing activities, expertise, and resources by submitting proposals to funding agencies, industrial partners, and vendors. * Participate in development and deployment of production Grids. * Work with TACC users to integrate Grid computing technologies into their research programs. * Publicize the results of these activities through presentations at conferences/workshops and through publications in proceedings and professional journals. * Additional tasks as needed. Required Qualifications: * Doctoral degree in computer science or in a scientific or engineering field. * Three or more years of post-doctorate experience in an academic environment. * Research experience in Grid computing including five or more recent relevant publications. * Proficiency with common Grid computing and Web services programming languages, tools, and protocols including C, C++, Java, XML, SOAP, WSDL, etc. * Experience using Grid computing software such as Globus, Legion/Avaki, Condor-G, etc. * Familiarity with the Open Grid Services Architecture, the Global Grid Forum, the NSF TeraGrid, etc. * Six or more years experience in scientific programming and/or software development. * Demonstrated expertise working in collaborative, interdisciplinary projects with computational scientists and engineers. * Demonstrated excellent interpersonal communication skills and professional demeanor. Preferred Qualifications: * History of writing successful proposals for external funding. * Experience developing and deploying Grid computing software. * Experience working with researchers to integrate Grid technologies into their research activities. * Expertise in project management and personnel management. * Significant coursework or other formal education in an application science or engineering discipline. * UNIX systems administration experience.
