RackSaver Announces the RS-4460

SAN DIEGO--RackSaver(R), a provider of high-density individual rack-mounted computer servers, supercomputers and BladeRack(TM) clusters today announced support for the Intel(R) Itanium(R) 2 processor. RackSaver's RS-4460, based on the Intel Server Platform SR870BN4, was unveiled at the 2002 Intel Developer Forum in San Jose, Calif. The RackSaver RS-4460, expected to be available in the fourth quarter of this year, will increase client investment protection by offering socket compatibility with two future generations of Itanium processors, and is one of the first 4U Quad Intel Itanium 2 processor-based server platforms. RackSaver plans to take advantage of the high scalability of the Itanium processor family by scaling up and also plans to release a dual Itanium 2-based system in a BladeRack configuration by Q1 of 2003. "The industry leading enterprise performance of Intel's Itanium 2 architecture combined with RackSaver's highly advanced, high quality cluster technology is a winning formula for any company, university or other entity requiring high performance computing resources," said David Driggers, RackSaver CEO. "The Itanium 2 processor's large memory addressibility opens up new opportunities with HPC customers that we couldn't tackle with other architectures." The Itanium 2 processor supports high transaction volumes, complex calculations and vast amounts of data and users. The processor's Explicitly Parallel Instruction Computing (EPIC) design and 3 MB integrated Level 3 (L3) cache enable high processing rates and performance for faster online transaction processing, data analysis, simulation and rendering. The processor also boasts advanced reliability features, including extensive error detection and correction on all of the processor's major data structures and an advanced Machine Check Architecture for intelligent error management and recovery of complex platform errors to prevent data loss, corruption and down time. "The Itanium 2 processor exemplifies Intel's ability to deliver cutting edge innovations while offering the scalability, the widest available OS and application support, and the reliability that are the hallmarks of Intel's maturity," said Gene Kim, vice president of sales and marketing. "With our Itanium 2-based server, we have a new opportunity in the Media, Entertainment and Oil and Gas Exploration markets because of the processor's high performance and reliability, and expanded memory support." The RackSaver RS-4460 will be offered with Itanium 2 processors featuring 3MB and 1.5MB of integrated L3 cache and speeds of 1GHz and 900MHz frequencies.
