Egenera and Red Hat Strengthen Relationship

MARLBORO, MA -- Egenera Inc., a leader in next-generation datacenter infrastructure, today announced that it will support Red Hat Linux Advanced Server, the first enterprise-class Linux operating system. Also as part of this agreement, Red Hat Inc. (Nasdaq: RHAT) will enhance Red Hat Linux Advanced Server to support the virtualization services of Egenera's BladeFrame(TM) system and its Processing Area Network (PAN) architecture. For customers, this means that a single version of Red Hat Linux Advanced Server will run on the next-generation BladeFrame--which features diskless processing nodes and automation software that create a utility-like fabric--and on Linux systems from legacy server vendors. "With Red Hat Linux Advanced Server, Red Hat has made a tremendous contribution to enterprise customers running business-critical datacenter applications," said Mike Thompson, chief operating officer of Egenera. "The advantages of open source over UNIX are clear: quantifiable savings, rapid enhancements, access to source code and the end of vendor lock-in. Red Hat Linux Advanced Server brings these benefits to a new level by combining them with the key attributes of a mature OS--exceptional reliability, top-notch customer service, a predictable release cycle and the support of leading ISVs. We are pleased to bring the advantages of Red Hat Linux Advanced Server to Egenera's world-class customers by strengthening our relationship with Red Hat." "This announcement of our relationship with Egenera further validates the impact of Red Hat Linux Advanced Server on the enterprise market," said Paul Cormier, executive vice president of engineering at Red Hat. "Egenera's Processing Area Network architecture has been a significant contributor to making Linux viable in the enterprise. Working with partners like Egenera allows us to deliver enterprise-class solutions faster and more economically, enabling our joint customers to gain even greater performance and cost benefits." Red Hat Linux Advanced Server is the industry's first ISV-supported platform to deliver the full benefits of open source to the enterprise. Red Hat Linux Advanced Server and other future enterprise platform solutions combine the software and value-added managed services that deliver the management, application and security offerings enterprises need to efficiently migrate and manage thousands of servers across the enterprise. Red Hat Linux Advanced Server is supported by the world's top enterprise software and hardware vendors, offering enterprise customers a new series of infrastructure solutions with tremendous price, performance and total-cost-of-ownership benefits for organizations migrating from expensive, proprietary UNIX platforms to Red Hat Linux Advanced Server.
