Egenera Appoints Nicholas J. Preston Vice President of European Operations

MARLBORO, MA -- Egenera Inc., a leader in next-generation datacenter infrastructure, today announced that Nick Preston has joined the Company as vice president of European operations, based in London. With this appointment, Egenera has established a sales, support and marketing presence in Europe's top financial center. Preston is initially charged with establishing an Egenera operation in the UK and with recruiting top-notch talent to expand and support the Company's growing customer base in that country. He is also responsible for evaluating the potential of other European markets and for guiding Egenera's reseller strategy in selected geographies. "With our U.S.-based customers rapidly pulling us into international markets--and expecting the same high quality of account management and technical support they receive from our domestic operation--Egenera needed an executive of Nick's caliber to safeguard our reputation and ensure our success," said Mike Thompson, chief operating officer, Egenera. "His ability to both build and inspire high-performance teams, coupled with deep sales and management experience, gives me great confidence that Nick will execute flawlessly against our aggressive plan for growth throughout Europe." "Egenera has a very compelling story, from founder Vern Brownell's heritage as a Wall Street CTO to the BladeFrame(TM) system's unique value proposition," said Preston. "By combining mainframe-like reliability and management with the scalability of distributed computing, Egenera provides customers the first viable Lintel platform for mission-critical applications--at half the cost of Unix offerings. From my vantage point, this looks and feels exactly right. Joining Egenera at this stage of its evolution into the world's next great computer company has to be the most exciting job in the industry." With 25 years in high technology, Preston brings a proven track record for helping U.S.-based companies succeed in international markets. Prior to joining Egenera, he served as vice president of EMEA for Stratus Technologies, where his focus on teamwork, performance and a culture of success consistently drove revenue ahead of objectives. During his tenure as a district manager with Sequent, Preston introduced a vertical-market strategy, landed a roster of blue-chip accounts and expanded the business into new geographies while routinely exceeding quota. Earlier, at Wang, he was promoted three times in five years and led a team that delivered results in the top three percent of Wang's worldwide sales force. Preston began his career at Xerox and was a member of England's Grand Slam rugby team in 1980. He holds a bachelor of science degree in production engineering and management from the University of Nottingham. For more information visit www.egenera.com.
