ARMONK, NY -- IBM's share of overall worldwide server revenue grew 2.0 points in the first quarter of 2002 compared with the first quarter of 2001—a larger revenue share gain than any vendor, according to the just-released Gartner Dataquest Worldwide server quarterly statistics database. In addition, IBM's worldwide Intel server revenue rose 2.8 points in the first quarter of 2002 from the same quarter a year ago, also a greater gain than any vendor. IBM also gained almost a point of revenue share in the UNIX+Linux server segment in the first quarter of 2002 compared to the same quarter of a year ago. The company gained 15.7 points of revenue share, year-to-year, in the Linux-based servers. The report shows IBM finishing the quarter with an industry-leading 31.5 percent share of Linux server revenue. "IBM has grown its server business in all of the six quarters since launching the eServer in the marketplace," said Mark Shearer, IBM vice president eServer product marketing. "IBM eServer delivers the leading technology, open standards, compatibility and self-management capabilities that customers look to for better value, security and reliability."
