New IBM eServer Breaks Benchmark Record

ARMONK, NY -- IBM today demonstrated the scalability of its newly released IBM eServer p670 and AIX(R), IBM's UNIX(R) operating system, by supporting a record 12,600 users of the Oracle® E-Business Suite with an average response time of 1.199 seconds. The test result was obtained with the Oracle Applications Standard Benchmark version 11i. Tested on a fully-configured p670, the dramatic results of the benchmark illustrate to joint Oracle E-Business Suite and IBM eServer customers that phenomenal performance, usually associated with high-end servers, is now attainable within the parameters of a midsized system. Capitalizing on the success of the enterprise-class IBM eServer p690, IBM's four- to 16-way IBM eServer p670 with POWER4(tm) microprocessor technology brings big system performance and reliability features to the midrange space. The system can run large workloads or be divided into as many as 16 "virtual" servers, offering customers the opportunity to consolidate applications.
