PALO ALTO, CA -- Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE:HWP) today introduced the HP Server rp7410. Designed for enterprises, mid-market companies, service providers and high-performance technical computing environments, the new 8-way server provides the dependability, adaptability and operational efficiency businesses need to keep up with changing workloads. The server is configured with up to eight high-performance PA-8700 processors at 650 or 750 MHz running HP-UX11i. To support dynamic partitioning and maximize server usage, the rp7410 uses the same high-end cell design HP introduced in September 2001 with the HP Server rp8400. The rp7410 also packs incredible performance density in a 10U size to minimize floor-space requirements and significantly reduce operational costs. The HP Server rp7410 bolsters the mid-range market lead of HP, which market research firm IDC sees as the clear leader in mid-range UNIX server revenue on an annual basis since 1997. In IDC's third quarter 2001 server industry report, HP increased its number one mid-range UNIX revenue position to 33.7 percent. This represents a 7.3 percent market share increase from the previous quarter. Performance and Highly Dependable The HP Server rp7410 offers industry-leading performance with a SPECjbb2000(TM) performance result of 84,600 Java(TM) operations per second. This result is 16.8 percent better than the 8-way IBM P660-6M1 system and 35.4 percent better than the 12-way Sun 6800. For high-performance technical applications, the rp7410 delivered a top score of 49.9 on SPEC CINT2000 rate(TM) and 36.8 on SPEC CFP2000 rate(TM). These industry-leading SPECint_rate2000 results make the HP server 22.6 percent and 44.6 percent faster than the IBM P660-6M1 and Sun 3800 mid-range UNIX servers, respectively. The rp7410 offers leading high-availability capabilities and is reportedly the only 8-way UNIX server offering self-healing cache technologies and fully certified by the Uptime Institute for fault-tolerant power compliance. The rp7410 also offers processor hot-standby, exclusive business application integration with HP MC/Serviceguard clustering software and electrically isolated hardware partitions. The rp7410's hardware is complemented by its enterprise-proven HP-UX 11i operating system, which has more than 1,100 applications available. HP-UX-11i provides highly reliable operating environments for quick and effortless deployment.
