E&S Teams with SimAuthor to Enhance Flight Data Visualization Products

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH -- Evans & Sutherland Computer Corporation (E&S*) (NASDAQ: ESCC), a leading developer and manufacturer of visual simulation software and hardware, has forged a strategic agreement with SimAuthor, Inc., which allows SimAuthor to re-purpose E&S rendering software and airport content for use within their FlightViz(tm) data visualization software. This merger of technologies will greatly enhance flight data visualization and its applications to aviation training and safety programs, and will result in exciting product developments to be launched later in the year. E&S produces highly detailed, FAA certified, airport databases that are used by their customers worldwide to generate highly realistic visual images for full-flight simulators, while SimAuthor's FlightViz software creates real-time, interactive, graphical depictions of actual flight or simulator data for replay on a standard PC. SimAuthor will integrate E&S's next-generation airport scenes and associated rendering software with FlightViz's 3D Scene display, which depicts the aircraft, flight path, airport runways, and surrounding terrain in three dimensions. The resulting 3D visualization of a flight or simulator session, within FlightViz, will have a level of reality that greatly surpasses anything currently available in the industry. In addition to the obvious advantages of a more realistic environment, an important benefit to aviation training is consistency and cross correlation. Pilots will be able to experience the same environment in the classroom, the briefing room, the simulator, and during the simulator debrief process. The value of that consistency will extend to safety departments using FlightViz in their Flight Operations Quality Assurance (FOQA) programs and will ultimately enhance the interdepartmental communication process. "Although our companies are focused on different aspects of the commercial aviation market, we have technologies that complement one another," said Richard A. Flitton, vice president and general manager of E&S's Commercial Simulation division. "This is a classic example of companies coming together to create new added value for their customers." As SimAuthor utilizes E&S software and airport scenery in FlightViz, it will also be using that technology to enhance its airport familiarization software (AirportFam(tm)) and taxiway familiarization software (TaxiFam(tm)). "Familiarizing pilots with airports they will be flying into is becoming an important part of many training programs," said Steve Lakowske, President & CEO of SimAuthor, Inc.
