E&S and Micro Nav to Demonstrate New Tower Trainer at ATC Maastricht

MAASTRICHT, THE NETHERLANDS -- Evans & Sutherland Computer Corporation (E&S®) (NASDAQ: ESCC)—Evans & Sutherland's newest training solution, the Air Traffic Control Trainer (ATCT), will be demonstrated for the first time in Europe at ATC Maastricht this week. Developed in a partnership with Micro Nav, one of the world's leading producers of air traffic control training software, the ATCT is a complete, advanced 3D tower simulator for licensing, refresher training, and conversion training. A quantum leap in realism and functionality for training air traffic controllers, the ATCT creates an environment that looks and feels like the real thing-with all the sights and tools of an actual control tower. Flexible and versatile, the ATCT allows users to train an entire tower crew or work with controllers one on one. Emergencies and unusual events can be practiced in safety. As controllers work in the simulated tower cab, the cues and responses replicate real-world situations with high fidelity. Aircraft and ground vehicles move realistically with six degrees of freedom, responding to controller commands and flight plans just as they would in actual operations and emergencies. With its small footprint, low height, and minimal need for special facility accommodations, the ATCT can be configured and set up virtually anywhere. ATCT's out-the-window views are the result of Evans & Sutherland's extensive experience in the design of image generators and display systems. The panorama has a large vertical field of view and a horizontal field of view up to a complete 360 degrees. Students move about the simulator as they would in real life, without disrupting the projected scenes. Evans & Sutherland's PC-based image generation system, EnsembleTM, provides the visual system for the ATCT. Ensemble epitomizes the huge advances in technology, functionality, and affordability of PC-based graphics in recent years. A high-performance, deterministic image generator with advanced simulation features, Ensemble operates on E&S's Integrator® run-time software, delivering feature-rich databases with large numbers of moving models. Micro Nav's BEST software makes it easy and intuitive to generate training exercises. Instructors create training scenarios in a point-and-click environment; placing aircraft and ground vehicles, setting routes, modifying performance characteristics, and setting up emergency situations. In addition, instructors can modify scenarios in progress to meet the specific training needs and objectives of each student. The only prerequisite for operating the ATCT is an understanding of air traffic control operations and terminology. In addition, Micro Nav's state-of-the-art voice recognition system allows the user to customize for local accents, real names, and phraseology. The system requires no special skills to operate and is designed to accept advances in voice recognition technology as they become available. For more information visit www.es.com/
