IBM Launches New Security Management Software

AUSTIN, TX -- IBM today unveiled new security management software to help companies extend revenue-generating business applications to more customers, partners, suppliers and employees, without compromising security. "e-business security must change from being a preventive measure to an enabling force as businesses across all industry segments open their systems to more internal and external users," said Chris Christiansen, program vice president, Internet Infrastructure and Security Software, IDC. IDC says that security authentication, authorization and administration (3A) software is growing faster than other security software segments such as firewall, anti-virus and encryption software. IDC predicts growth from $2.8 billion in 2000 to $9.5 billion in 2005, representing a compound annual growth rate of 28 percent. IBM has bolstered its Tivoli software portfolio, adding new software for end-to-end identity management, enhanced software for secure access across business ecosystem applications, as well as new vulnerability management software that helps mitigate potential security risks. "T. Rowe Price asks our customers to 'Invest With Confidence.' It's a significant part of our identity. Historically this has been defined as confidence in our investment, and customer service capabilities. But now, more than ever, our customers are asking serious questions about our ability to protect and secure their information," said Michael Goff, managing director, T. Rowe Price Group. "Tivoli Policy Director is a total security platform allowing us to defend our corporate assets -- our customer relationships." "Kmart chose Tivoli software to help us roll out new applications to our stores and thousands of users faster without compromising our corporate security policy," said Mike Hubbard, manager, Application Architecture, Kmart. "It will help us manage users and their access rights centrally, while increasing our application developer productivity by providing a centralized security management solution across our third-party business applications." "As more users gain access to the enterprise, software must not only address security vulnerabilities but also enable companies to grow and expand business," said Arvind Krishna, vice president of security products, Tivoli Software, IBM Software Group. "Our expanded software portfolio, backed by the services talent in IBM Global Services and experts in IBM Research, gives our customers the power to realize new business opportunities while enforcing a consistent security policy." IBM is delivering: New software for identity management. Tivoli Identity Director is new software that manages user information and provisions new user services across legacy and e-business applications and systems. The software enables IT security organizations to centralize, automate and simplify the processes involved in managing user information across a wide set of heterogeneous systems, applications and environments, and it provides a Web self-service option through the embedded workflow engine that helps improve the end-user experience. Tivoli Identity Director can also provision user access rights to applications by interoperating with Tivoli Policy Director. Tivoli Identity Director helps companies bring more users, systems and applications online faster, without compromising a consistent security policy. The IBM eServer family will leverage Tivoli Identity Director technology as part of the Project eLiza initiative to deliver self-managing servers. New software for vulnerability management. Tivoli Intrusion Manager is new software specifically designed for mid-sized e-businesses to mitigate risks and reduce security vulnerabilities. The software enables organizations to monitor attacks, threats and exposures across third-party applications, servers, network devices and operating systems, from a centralized management console. Tivoli Intrusion Manager serves as an entry security management tool for mid-sized companies that need to identify real security threats in the network and Web servers by reducing security event clutter and false positives. IBM also offers Tivoli Risk Manager, vulnerability management software offered for companies with larger security environments. With the combined capabilities of event correlation across third-party products and a Web intrusion detection system, network intrusion detection system and IBM DB2 Universal Database, Tivoli Intrusion Manager helps secure the e-business by bringing together data collection, analysis and problem resolution into a single, comprehensive monitoring and management security system. Enhanced secure access management software. IBM also has enhanced Tivoli Policy Director, enabling organizations to secure access and manage security policies across a broader range of "business ecosystem" applications. Expanded Web single sign-on and authorization support for market-leading portal, customer relationship management and application server solutions helps organizations extend secure access across the business ecosystem to potentially millions of customers, suppliers, partners and employees.
