LSI Logic Demos Fusion-MPT I/O Product Optimized For Itanium Platforms

SAN JOSE, CA -- LSI Logic Corporation (NYSE: LSI), a leader in storage solutions, demonstrates its Fusion-MPT(TM)-based Ultra320 SCSI controller with integrated mirroring at the Intel Developer Forum (IDF) showing high performance fault tolerance. Also being shown is an LSI Logic PCI-X 2Gbit quad-port Fibre Channel host bus adapter featuring the LSIFC929 controller optimized for Itanium-based platforms. LSI Logic's I/O controllers complement Intel's Itanium processors with high performance and scalability. By combining high throughput PCI-X and low system processor overhead, made possible by LSI Logic's Fusion-MPT architecture, the LSI Logic I/O solutions are ideal for the Itanium processors' performance intensive platforms. The integrated mirroring feature of LSI Logic's Fusion-MPT-based Ultra320 SCSI and Fibre Channel controllers provides fault tolerant protection for critical data such as the boot volume for servers, or the entire system volume for workstations. This is accomplished without sacrificing performance or requiring the cost of a full-blown RAID controller. Designed for ease of use, integrated mirroring needs no special drivers, and an automated configuration utility makes it possible to migrate from a single drive installation to a mirrored system without the need to re-install the operating system. "Integrated mirroring is here today and available in both Ultra320 SCSI and Fibre Channel products," said John D'Errico, executive vice president of the Storage Components Division for LSI Logic. "Our Fusion-MPT architecture affords us the ability to provide the mirroring feature without additional cost for the entry-level server customer. By optimizing our product to Itanium-based platforms we gain highly reliable and formidable products with outstanding performance features." "The addition of a high performance fault tolerant mirroring feature enhances the design flexibility offered by LSI Logic's SCSI and Fibre Channel controllers," said Tom Garrison, director of Enterprise Processor Marketing at Intel. LSI Logic's LSIS7402XP quad port PCI-X to 2Gbit Fibre Channel host bus adapter offers unprecedented performance and outstanding throughput using two dual-channel LSIFC929 Fibre Channel controllers. The controllers, with integrated transceivers, save on real estate, cost and component count. The LSIFC929 has demonstrated I/O performance of 75,000 I/O's per second. The LSI53C1030 PCI-X to Ultra320 SCSI controller features a 64 bit/133 MHz PCI-X host bus for a maximum peak bandwidth of 1066 MB/s combined with dual Ultra320 SCSI channels capable of an aggregated 640 MB/s. Based on ARM(R) processor technology, the LSI53C1030 is capable of delivering 100,000 I/Os per second. For more information visit www.lsilogic.com
