BALTIMORE, MD -- Hitachi Telecom (USA) Inc. today announced the completion of significant phases of dense wavelength division multiplexer (DWDM) optical network systems deployment for Global Crossing Ltd. (NYSE:GX). During the first half of 2001, Hitachi Telecom helped the company triple the capacity of certain routes on its network, thereby allowing Global Crossing to meet customer bandwidth demands quickly. Global Crossing is building and offering services over a global IP-based fiber optic network. For its latest phase of deployment, Global Crossing is using Hitachi Telecom's equipment on major routes that span distances from Salt Lake City to Sunnyvale, Calif. and Los Angeles to Phoenix to San Antonio. Since January 2001, Hitachi Telecom has deployed its systems on these important routes for Global Crossing, all in sequence to match the fiber spans and fiber types.
