HP's Bond to Receive White House Nomination for Commerce Department Position

PALO ALTO, CA -- Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE:HWP) today announced that Phil Bond, director of HP Federal Public Policy Programs, is being considered for a Commerce Department position. On July 3, the White House announced that President George W. Bush intends to nominate Bond for Under Secretary of Commerce for Technology at the U.S. Department of Commerce. In this position, Bond would oversee technology policy, space commercialization and next-generation transportation vehicles for the U.S. Department of Commerce. He would also supervise the National Institute of Standards and Technology and the National Technical Information Service. While at HP, Bond led the formulation of HP positions on U.S. domestic public policy issues, including e-commerce, trade, the environment, education, procurement and taxation. He also managed HP's interactions with Congress, the White House and other federal offices and worked with companies, associations and coalitions on high-tech public policy issues and political activities. Before joining HP, Bond served as senior vice president of the Information Technology Industry council (ITI), where he was the lead lobbyist for a trade association of 30 of the world's leading information technology companies. Prior to joining ITI, Bond served as chief of staff to U.S. Rep. Jennifer Dunn (R-WA), principal deputy assistant secretary of defense for legislative affairs under U.S. Defense Secretary Dick Cheney, chief of staff to U.S. Rep.
