UGS Announces the Immediate Release of Parasolid Version 13.0

CYPRESS, CA -- UGS (NYSE: UGS), today announces the immediate availability of Parasolid version 13.0, its geometric modeling product, and associated interoperability components. This latest release introduces state-of-the-art automated detail removal technology and extends the scope of interoperability components built around Parasolid. In addition, Parasolid version 13.0 includes an extensive range of modeling enhancements, while supporting several new hardware platforms. With Parasolid version 13.0, UGS demonstrates its continued commitment to deliver industry-defining geometric modeling and interoperability technology to its customers - which include the majority of the industry's leading CAD/CAM/CAE vendors - throughout the complete product lifecycle. Parasolid's new detail removal technology enables its users to quickly and easily prepare models for downstream applications that do not require all the geometric detail typically needed in product design or manufacturing. Through the use of built-in intelligence, Parasolid version 13.0 can produce simplified representations from a CAD model that are more appropriate for functions such as visualization or engineering analysis. Parasolid version 13.0 also includes enhancements that further improve its industry-leading interoperability. Version 13.0 includes the latest release of Parasolid's XML-based eXT standard, which improves interoperability by providing extended support for data sharing and exchange. In addition, new versions of Parasolid Bodyshop and translator components extend the robustness and success of traditional CAD data exchange. "Parasolid continues to push the boundaries of geometric modeling components to support broader functional areas, so that application developers can focus their resources on delivering high-value innovations to their customers," says Ken Sears, director of the Parasolid line of business, UGS. "This extension of functional capability, together with our expanding investment in interoperability technologies, continues to widen the Parasolid pipeline and thereby enhance the value of data-sharing between Parasolid-based applications." In addition to these innovations, version 13.0 extends Parasolid's unrivaled foundation of model creation and editing by providing the following new solutions for modeling automation, surfacing and blending: Modeling automation - New tapering, offsetting and editing capabilities have been added to increasingly automate complex modeling tasks. As a result, developers with applications built on Parasolid can easily pass these productivity-enhancing functions on to their customers. Advanced surfacing - Extensions to Parasolid's advanced surface modeling functionality for general hole filling and lofting have been introduced to simplify the creation of increasingly complex shapes. Extreme blending & chamfering - Version 13.0 expands Parasolid's industry-leading blend and chamfer capabilities by providing additional easy-to-use geometry creation and editing techniques to support the ever increasing demands of real-world applications. With the addition of 64-bit versions for Hewlett Packard and Sun hardware, Parasolid version 13.0 further increases its leadership in handling the large-scale models necessary for digital mock-up and other product modeling applications. Additionally, Parasolid version 13.0 is the first component geometric modeler optimized for the Intel Pentium 4 processor with enhancements that take advantage of Intel's Netburst™ micro-architecture. Finally, with Parasolid version 13.0, UGS maintains its policy of making new versions 100 percent plug-compatible with previous Parasolid releases. Therefore, developers of Parasolid-based applications will be able to simply plug version 13.0 into their software products and receive functional and performance benefits without making changes to their code base.
