6WIND Releases High-Performance Networking Solution on Red Hat

Solution for telecom, enterprise and cloud applications to be featured at Mobile World Congress and RSA Conference

6WIND has announced the release of the 6WINDGate software on Red Hat Enterprise Linux, the world’s leading open source platform for enterprises, providing a high-performance networking software solution for applications such as mobile infrastructure, network appliances and data center networking. The 6WINDGate networking software deployed on Red Hat Enterprise Linux enables equipment manufacturers to accelerate the development time for networking equipment that delivers critical CAPEX and OPEX improvements for service providers. 6WIND will be discussing the solution at two upcoming conferences: in booth #7A87 at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona and in booth #854 at RSA Conference in San Francisco.
Software Defined Networking (SDN) transforms the business model for networking, replacing the traditional, vertically-integrated model characterized by proprietary software running on proprietary hardware with a horizontally-disaggregated model comprising generic hardware platforms based on general purpose processors, as well as an OS or hypervisor to deploy applications. For both service providers and enterprise IT organizations, this results in improved CAPEX and OPEX, achieved through better utilization of their networking equipment, as well as the accelerated deployment of new features and services which boost the retention of high-value subscribers.

To be cost-effective, however, SDN-based equipment requires high-performance networking software running on commodity platforms based on generic hardware and industry-standard hypervisors. 6WIND is the only commercial provider of such software, with a proven history of successful deployments in service provider networks worldwide. 6WINDGate maximizes network performance, ensures unlimited scalability across blades or racks and accelerates advanced networking features such as policy enforcement and security.

“We are pleased to welcome 6WIND to our ecosystem of ISVs to help address customers’ networking performance challenges,” said Mike Werner, senior director, ISV and developer ecosystem, at Red Hat. “Red Hat Enterprise Linux has demonstrated industry-leading quality, stability and reliability through existing deployments in carrier grade environments. The availability of 6WINDGate as an application running on Red Hat Enterprise Linux enables organizations to implement high-performance networking features for wireless infrastructure, network appliances and IT data centers in multiple markets while leveraging the benefits of Red Hat Enterprise Linux.”

“6WINDGate has been adopted by multiple tier-one equipment manufacturers and deployed in service provider networks throughout Asia, Europe and North America,” said Eric Carmès, CEO of 6WIND. “Adding support for Red Hat Enterprise Linux enables our customers to accelerate the development of their products by leveraging an enterprise platform that has already been validated to provide best-in-class networking performance and carrier grade reliability.”

Customers can now install 6WINDGate as a high-performance networking application on Red Hat Enterprise Linux. This allows existing applications installed on the platform that are heavily dependent on network I/O to realize network performance benefits without any porting or additional development. Customers significantly accelerate their time-to-market while minimizing overall schedule risk. 6WIND is also engaged in engineering collaboration with the kernel.org upstream community, providing a roadmap for standard Linux kernel integration with 6WINDGate and ensuring seamless ongoing support.
