EADS Innovation Works, Hamburg, Uses Altair's CAE Suite HyperWorks for Optimization and Stochastic Applications

Strategic decision for HyperWorks helps engineers to develop aerospace products better and faster

Altair Engineering announced today that EADS Innovation Works -- the global network of Technical Capability Centers operating the corporate Research & Technology laboratories -- has recently benchmarked the HyperWorks CAE platform for functional and physical simulation tasks and has again recommended its use to the engineers of the EADS Group and its divisions Airbus, Eurocopter, EADS Astrium and EADS Defence & Security. The Simulation and Graphical Technologies Team of EADS Innovation Works has been using HyperWorks successfully for more than seven years. The department is constantly looking for the best tools to guarantee the technical innovation potential of EADS with a focus on the long-term horizon. The strategic decision for the HyperWorks suite will help EADS engineers in many different areas to develop their products better and faster. Dealing with highly complex systems the special research emphasis is placed on uncertainty management and methods to enhance the robustness, reliability and safety of future product developments.

"We at EADS Innovation Works consistently seek out tools that help our engineers to design and develop even better products," said Dietmar Vogt, at EADS Innovation Works Hamburg, Germany. "HyperWorks offers our engineers the full potential of CAE in all of its bandwidth at a very competitive price; and, with the third-party products offered within the HyperWorks Enabled Community, the multidisciplinary portfolio offered by Altair is further increased."

HyperWorks products are used for many CAE activities including stochastic studies, Design of Experiments, and optimization, for versatile target-oriented applications like optical radiation, acoustic, electric, structural and fluid mechanical simulations. Major advantages are the reliable interfaces to proprietary and binary files of simulation models and results. Its open architecture and the use of the TCL/TK-based script language make them easy to be customized and therefore suitable also for applications for which no specialized out-of-the-box tool is available. The software runs on all common platforms and can be used with diverse available CAE solvers.

"Altair offers very good solutions for the simulation tasks our engineers face," he adds. "Additionally, we appreciate the good and responsive support we get from Altair, together with the direct interaction with the Altair development team, which integrates our input usually very quickly into future software development and gives us the possibility to influence the future development of the software according to our needs."

"To work with EADS Innovation Works is a great pleasure for us," said Dr. Michael Hoffmann, Altair vice president, EMEA. "The relationship we enjoy with EADS Innovation Works is mutually beneficial and allows us to tailor our products better to meet their needs as well as those of the global aerospace community. Especially in the area of composites, EADS' experience and input helps us to continuously improve the flexibility and usability of our products. The open architecture of our software suite and its many automated use cases help engineers from all industries to focus on what is most important: deliver better products in a shorter time at lower development costs."
