Spectra continues its strong traction in HPC

Spectra Logic Outpaces Industry in Product Innovation; Approaches 30-Year Anniversary

Spectra Logic today announced significant year over year growth for its enterprise and mid-range data protection solutions. Spectra Logic posted its third consecutive year of profitability in fiscal year 2009, which ended June 30, 2009, and posted profitable annual results for four of the last five years.  Several significant product innovations were introduced during this period and the company’s base of customers continued to grow.

"Organizations of all sizes continue to grapple with how to best protect their data, to scale as their business needs dictate, and to meet increasingly stringent regulatory and compliance requirements – and all while keeping a close eye on costs," said Mark Peters, senior analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group.  "Spectra Logic’s innovative, integrated solutions and feature sets, combined with its customer-centric service and support strength, address these challenges and provide efficient, cost-effective data protection."

Strong sales and customer growth
Revenues increased 12 percent quarter over quarter in fiscal fourth quarter 2009 as the company continued its strong sales in enterprise and mid-range solutions.  Despite a significantly weaker economy during its fiscal 2009, Spectra Logic achieved growth in very large and medium-sized tape libraries, disk-based systems, media and support.  Increased sales of the company’s very large and medium-sized tape libraries were driven by strong traction in the high-performance computing (HPC), media and entertainment, and federal government sectors as well as new product introductions. During the year, the company expanded its line of data protection solutions with the addition of three new mid-size solutions – the T680, T320 and T200, and added 44 new enterprise customers, reflecting the strong growth of its large data protection solutions.

"For our environment, high performance, density, reliability and strong customer support are essential," said Dean Flanders, head of informatics and chief information officer of the Friedrich Miescher Institute, a part of the Novartis Research Foundation.  "With Spectra Logic's innovative tape library solutions, we’ve been able to implement highly reliable tiered storage solutions that reduce costs, shrink backup windows and free up valuable data center space. We have found that Spectra libraries are an exceptional value and the support department is outstanding. Given Spectra Logic’s responsiveness, continual innovation and business stability, it is no surprise why the company continues to succeed even in difficult markets."

Channel growth and expansion
The company achieved growth with channel partners this past year, increasing its partner base by more than 10 percent in fiscal year 2009. With almost 400 channel partners worldwide, Spectra Logic’s Spectra EDGE Partner Program offers attractive margins and support in sales and training. In addition, the company expanded its presence across Europe.
