Clustered Storage on the Rise, Fueled by Rapid Growth of Unstructured Data
Isilon Systems Customer Base More Than Doubles in Last Twelve Months; Leading Analyst Firm's New User Survey Reports Clustered Storage Among Top Storage Technologies to be Adopted in Next Twelve Months: Isilon Systems today announced that the company's customer base has surpassed 600 customers and has more than doubled in just the last twelve months, underscoring Isilon's leadership and growth in the burgeoning clustered storage market. Isilon is witnessing strong customer adoption across a broad range of industries including Manufacturing, Life Sciences, Oil and Gas, Telecommunications, Media and Entertainment, Internet and the Federal Government. Isilon also today announced that it is showcasing its award winning IQ clustered storage systems in booth M13 at the Gartner 26th Annual Data Center Conference taking place November 27-30, 2007, in Las Vegas, Nevada. "The enterprise data center is in the midst of a major transformation, fueled by the rapid growth of unstructured data and the wide-spread deployment of high-performance computing and high-speed networking infrastructure," said Sujal Patel, CEO, Isilon Systems. "Clustered storage, paralleling the paradigm shift to clustered computing, is enabling enterprises to finally unlock the storage bottleneck and speed the entire data center value chain to achieve unprecedented levels of innovation and business agility." Further highlighting the rising adoption of clustered storage, Gartner reported the results of a September 2007, storage end-user survey among midsize and large enterprises, showing that clustered storage/file- virtualization products ranked number four among all respondents in the list of eight storage technologies and products to be adopted in the next twelve months. The results of the "Gartner Storage User Survey," authored by Pushan Rinnen on October 30, 2007, also confirm that unstructured data is growing faster than structured data. "We are seeing an increased user interest in clustered storage in a scale-out architecture because of its easy-to-grow scalability," said Pushan Rinnen, Gartner Research Director. "Our survey results clearly confirm this trend." Isilon's clustered storage architecture was designed and developed to specifically address the needs of storing, managing and accessing unstructured data and digital content. Isilon's IQ line of clustered storage products enable businesses to create a single, shared pool of storage that can modularly scale to more than 1.6 Petabytes of capacity and deliver data throughput of 10 gigabytes per second of performance, achieving 100 times the scalability and 20 times the performance of traditional SAN and NAS systems. Powered by OneFS, Isilon IQ delivers the industry's first single file system that unifies and provides instant and ubiquitous access to the rapidly growing stores of digital content, eliminating the cost and complexity barriers of traditional storage architectures. OneFS is a unified operating system software layer that powers all of Isilon's award-winning IQ family of clustered storage systems including the Isilon IQ 200, 1920, 3000, 6000, 9000, 12000, Accelerator, and EX 6000, 9000 and 12000. Isilon also provides a robust suite of software applications including SnapshotIQ, SmartConnect, SmartQuotas, MigrationIQ and SyncIQ that leverage OneFS and clustered storage, providing the highest levels of data protection and automated data management.
