Foundry Captures the #1 Spot in Layer 3 10-Gigabit Ethernet

Foundry Networks, a performance and total solutions leader for end-to-end switching and routing, today announced that research firm Dell'Oro Group ranked Foundry as the #1 market share leader in the fast-growing 10-Gigabit Ethernet (10-GbE) Layer 3 market for the 4th quarter of 2004 and for the full year 2004. Dell'Oro's research placed Foundry as the leader in this market sector with a 34.5% share of port shipments and a 38.8% share of revenue. "Foundry has maintained our leadership in 10-Gigabit Ethernet since the market's inception in 2001, and we continue to drive the price/performance curve with the most diverse, feature-rich and affordable 10-GbE solutions on the market," said Bobby Johnson, Foundry's president and CEO. "The 10-GbE market is expected to more than triple in the next two years, and Foundry is exceptionally well positioned to capitalize on this growth because we have the product breadth, scalability and financial viability to continue expanding our portfolio of 10-GbE products in both Layer 2/3 and Layer 4-7, and serving both enterprise and service provider customers." Foundry was the first networking company to ship 10-Gigabit Ethernet products (October 2001) and today offers the most scalable and diverse line of 10-GbE products in the industry, ranging from network edge to core. Last month, Foundry announced the new SuperX family of Layer 2/3 compact modular switches which offers the industry's highest 10-GbE density per rack, the lowest 10-GbE price-per-port in a modular switch, wire-speed throughput and forwarding on every port, and a compact form factor that allows installation of up to eight systems per 7-foot rack. Like Foundry's other recently announced 10-GbE products, the new SuperX family is designed to accelerate mainstream enterprise and service provider adoption of 10-GbE by adding a diverse and flexible range of high-performance, highly integrated solutions to Foundry's product portfolio at industry-leading prices. Foundry's 10-Gigabit Ethernet customers include many of the world's leading enterprises and service providers, such as 104.com, Amsterdam Internet Exchange, BBC/BBC Technology, Kyodo News, Lucasfilm Ltd., Provincia di Milano, Saks Corporation, Toronto Hydro Telecom, University of Strathclyde, US Treasury, USC Information Sciences Institute, and the Walter Reed Army Medical Center.
