Forensics Explorers to Launch Mobile Intercept Unit Solution

Top Layer Networks, Inc., a provider of globally proven intrusion prevention and IP intercept solutions, today announced that its high performance DCFD IP Interception and IDS Balancer (IDSB) aggregation, filtering and balancing ASIC-based appliances have been chosen as hardware solutions for a new offering from Forensics Explorers, a division of ManTech International Corporation. The combined solutions enable military and law enforcement to effectively monitor and capture Gigabit Ethernet network traffic and use advanced forensics analysis to identify targets of interest and alert investigating agents to online activities. The Mobile Intercept Unit (MIU) is capable of being transported anywhere in the world as a fly-in echelon for military and law enforcement missions that require computer-to-computer intelligence to be captured, analyzed and transformed into actionable intelligence quickly. The MIU allows for Lawful Intercept collections on the Internet and gives military intelligence professionals the ability to transport their own LAN segment to collection points around the world. These pre-configured MIU kits combine the proven collection and analysis capability of the NetWitness product line with the throughput multiplier of Top Layer's DCFD and IDSB products, enabling users to collect against extremely large traffic volumes without packet loss. "Forensics Explorers provides the software that military and law enforcement professionals need to fill the C2C intelligence-gap," said David Peterson, MIU Project Manager with Forensics Explorers, ManTech International Corporation. "The Top Layer DCFD allows NetWitness to capture and filter network traffic at the speed of the Internet, giving intelligence professionals the real-time alerting and analytical capabilities their jobs require." Forensics Explorers has long been a provider of expertise and software to the Federal Government, and the addition of the MIU to its product line means military and law enforcement investigators have a complete turn-key system available for their Internet investigation requirements. "The MIU is the next step in the evolution of signals intelligence for the U.S. Military and law enforcement communities," added Peterson. "The government has realized it cannot ignore the vast Internet infrastructures used for command and control by our adversaries. The MIU provides the means to help collect on what we've been missing." The Top Layer DCFD and IDSB products offer multiple flexible configuration options, enabling the user to break down the Gigabit Ethernet traffic and assign it to specific monitoring ports in different ways, such as by protocol or session type. Together with Forensics Explorers' NetWitness 5.0 Enterprise solution, customers can capture and analyze Gigabit Ethernet traffic in near real-time, allowing analysts and automatic alerting agents to inform field commanders on criminal activity from cyberspace.
