China Netcom Uses Cisco Platform

China Network Communications Group (CNG) has announced that it will use the Cisco 10000 Edge Services Router as part of its aggressive expansion of broadband services in Shandong, Liaoning, and Hangzhou provinces. The announced system upgrade is part of CNG's long-term program to provide the most advanced broadband services to its over 17.8 million subscribers across China. Combined, the three provinces currently have over 1 million broadband subscribers, but demand for services is expected to double over the next year. CNG expects this growth to come from both residential as well as commercial subscribers, and will require additional network performance, scalability, and service quality. With the widest variety of interfaces, combined with a unique blend of processing power, capacity, high availability, and IP intelligent features, the Cisco 10000 platform is used by carriers around the world for both integrated private line and broadband aggregation services. The Cisco 10000 is the industry's only edge router that delivers consistent high performance features for carriers deploying IP/MPLS VPN services to both broadband and private line customers. This multiservice capability allows carriers to expand services and enter new markets, while reducing network complexity and operational and capital requirements.
