PathScale High-Performance 64-bit Linux Compilers for AMD Opteron

PathScale Inc., developer of innovative software and hardware solutions to accelerate the performance and efficiency of Linux clusters, has announced the beta availability of its new suite of high-performance compilers for the AMD Opteron(TM) processor. The announcement was made today at the LinuxWorld Conference and Expo in New York. PathScale exhibited its Compiler Suite in the Advanced Micro Devices Booth #413 at Javits Center. PathScale C, C++ and Fortran 90/95 compilers leverage the AMD Opteron processor's high-performance 64-bit functionality and industry-leading price/performance. Results on real application code and industry standard benchmarks show that the PathScale Compiler Suite offers the highest performance 64-bit compilers for AMD Opteron processor-based Linux servers by a margin of up to 40 percent. The company revealed that the beta version of its Compiler Suite is being distributed to initial beta users on January 23. A second, broader beta customer distribution will be made during February. "AMD Opteron processor customers have expressed a strong interest in the potential performance advantages offered by the PathScale Compiler Suite," said Ben Williams, director, server/workstation segment, AMD's Microprocessor Business Unit. "The beta PathScale compilers will help provide customers with better performance and scalability for server clusters based on AMD Opteron processors." PathScale also provided LinuxWorld attendees with details of its pricing policies for C, C++ and Fortran 9X compilers, explaining that the compiler suite will be offered as an annual subscription service. Annual fees will encompass all necessary product licenses and maintenance services. Maintenance services will include all major and minor product updates as well as bug fixes, online access to PathScale's support database and professional support. "The enormous demand for the PathScale Compiler Suite has vastly exceeded our expectations and has validated our fundamental premises about the strong market need for faster, more capable AMD64 compilers than those that exist in the industry today," said Len Rosenthal, vice president of marketing for PathScale. "PathScale is on plan and on time in delivering the products and capabilities we've promised our customers." Volume Pricing and Availability The PathScale Compiler Suite will be priced as an Annual Subscription Service. License quantities and volume discounts are based on the number of developers using the compiler and the total number of compile servers being deployed. The production version of the PathScale Compiler Suite can be ordered starting on March 1, 2004 and will be generally available from PathScale and its reseller partners in late March.
