Supermicro has officially launched its highly anticipated 1U dual Intel Itanium(R)2 server solution, the SuperServer 6113M-8/i, to meet the ever-growing demands of the HPC server and large database segments. The 6113M-8/i includes the most sophisticated 1U dual Itanium 2 serverboard in a standard extended ATX formfactor: the SUPER i2DMR-8G2, and the equally impressive SC813 series chassis, specially optimized for Itanium 2-based solutions. "For 64-bit scientific applications, this product's performance is far superior to Xeon and AMD solutions," asserts Charles Liang, CEO of Supermicro. "With Intel's recent decision to lower Itanium pricing, we anticipate broad adoption of this true 64-bit platform." Compared to existing 2U Itanium servers in the market, the newly designed 1U SuperServer 6113M-8/i not only supports more hard drives and memory but also features a unique state-of-the-art cooling solution. For those who prefer a 2U solution, Supermicro produces the 2U SuperServer 6123M-8, which supports up to six hot-swap SCA drives.
