TeraConnect to Demonstrate Industry's Highest Density Interconnects at OFC
ANAHEIM, CA -- TeraConnect, Inc., a technology leader in optical components, announced that it will demonstrate its TeraLink(TM) two-dimensional opto-electronic (2DOE) interconnects to attendees of Optical Fiber Conference (OFC) in Anaheim, CA, March 19-21, 2002, at the TeraConnect booth #6480. Targeted to the high-performance computing and communications market and leveraging field-proven technology developed in military and defense operations, TeraConnect is shipping the densest fiber optic interconnect link for commercial deployment to router, server and switch OEMs. RHK estimates Internet traffic will reach more than 15 million terabytes per month by 2003, up from 350,000 terabytes per month in 1999. To avoid creating a bottleneck as Internet use, data traffic, and transmission of bandwidth-intensive applications continue to grow, data network equipment manufacturers have a compelling need to produce equipment that can support the increasing demands on the infrastructure, with the greatest performance and reliability at the lowest cost. Interconnects - which convert electric signals to optic and allow data to be transmitted over fiber optic cables between different racks of equipment - are the key element to alleviating the bottleneck. As systems and installations grow larger, both in size and processing power, more traffic needs to flow between them at ever-increasing rates. According to ElectroniCast, the market for 850 nm VCSEL-based transceiver modules will reach $5.4 billion in 2006. TeraConnect's high-density 2DOE TeraLink interconnects enable increased data flows in routers, switches and servers that would otherwise become data bottlenecks. "The density of interconnects is becoming the most critical factor in order to optimize performance and economize increasing demands on networking equipment," said George Dannecker, president and CEO, TeraConnect. "Whether current or next-generation technology, whether at 10 Gigabit or 40 Gigabit per second speeds, the competitive driver for data network infrastructure providers will be getting the most data transferred at the lowest cost per bit." Features of the 2DOE TeraLink(TM) Demonstration The TeraConnect booth at OFC will feature a live demonstration of the TeraLink(TM) optical transmit and receive modules. A 100 meter length of multimode fiber will connect the transmit module to the receive module. Attendees may choose channels randomly to view eye diagrams and bit error rate measurements generated from standard lab equipment and displayed on a large, flat-screen display for all attendees to view.
