SC08 Technical Program Registration Opens Monday, August 4

Registration for the SC08 Technical Program will open Monday, Aug. 4. This year’s Technical Program will include two days of tutorials, three days of technical paper presentations, six panel discussions, 13 workshops, a flock of birds-of-a-feather sessions, poster presentations and more. SC08, to be held Nov. 15-21 in Austin, is the international conference of high performance computing, networking, storage and analysis. Starting at 9 a.m. Monday Aug. 4 (EDT), approximately 1,300 rooms at conference hotels in downtown Austin will become available through the SC08 reservation system. SC08 Technical Papers Program Set At the heart of the SC08 Technical Program are the Technical Papers sessions. After 277 submissions, 1080 reviews, and two days of committee meetings, the SC08 Technical Papers Committee accepted 59 papers to be presented in 20 sessions at SC08. "We are very happy with the papers we were able to accept this year," said Papers Co-Chair Darren Kerbyson. "A 21 percent acceptance rate definitely shows that we took only the cream of the crop, and that's our goal every year." Nearly as impressive as the quality is the diversity of the papers, which cover the full range of SC08 technical areas. As announced in the Call for Proposals, this included Applications, Architecture, Grids, Networks, Performance, and System Software. "One of the exciting things about SC08 is that we're at the cutting edge of so many areas," said Papers Co-Chair DK Panda. "We have papers about GPU applications, petaflop architectures, e-science grids, OS kernels, and 10-gigabit wide-area networks, just to name a few." 13 Workshops Selected Another popular component of the Technical Program is the series of workshops held in conjunction with the SC conference. For SC08, 13 workshops were selected. Workshops provide attendees with independently planned full-, half-, or multi-day sessions that complement the SC08 Technical Program and extend its impact by providing greater depth of focus.
