Fujitsu Provides Transport for a Changing World at the SC09 Conference

Fujitsu FLASHWAVE 7120 Platform Delivers Intelligent Bandwidth to SCinet

Fujitsu Network Communications, a leading supplier of business, information technology, and communications solutions, announced today that its FLASHWAVE 7120 wavelength services access platform will be deployed to support the SCinet Wide Area Network (WAN) at the upcoming SC09 conference. SCinet is built each year during the SC conference by university, government, and industry volunteers to highlight cutting-edge platforms in high-performance computing (HPC), networking, storage and analysis.

Two FLASHWAVE 7120 nodes will be located at local Oregon Points of Presence (POPs) to transmit data to the SCinet WAN network at the Oregon Convention Center. A third node will be on display in the SCinet Network Operations Center (NOC) carrying traffic back to the convention center.

“As both an equipment supplier and research entity, Fujitsu is astutely aware that bandwidth requirements in the research and education sector continue to escalate,” said Stephen Carlton, vice president of planning and product management at Fujitsu Network Communications. “To simulate real- world conditions, the SCinet WAN that is being constructed at this year’s conference will run at 300 Gbps. The FLASHWAVE 7120 platforms we are contributing to SCinet offer a compact solution capable of delivering bandwidth and functionality that is ideal for the research and education segment.”

Fujitsu will be in Booth #1224 at the SC09 Conference from Monday, November 16 through Thursday, November 19, 2009.

Summary of the FLASHWAVE 7120 Wavelength Services Access Platform
The FLASHWAVE 7120 system is a combination access WDM and intelligent edge service delivery platform. The system’s high density, compact size, and low power consumption make it ideal for simultaneously solving bandwidth and fiber constraints and delivering managed services and wavelengths to enterprise locations, including research centers, university buildings, and healthcare providers.

The FLASHWAVE 7120 wavelength services access platform simplifies the process of adding incremental bandwidth and functionality. Its unique photonic layer solution offers the reliability and simple management of traditional optical transport systems while addressing multiple network challenges, including optical metro edge networking, managed wavelength service delivery, optical reach extension, and fiber relief. Its comprehensive suite of passive and active modules permits flexible customization and facilitates cost reduction by mixing and matching components as needed.
