Extreme Networks Completes NetWorld+Interop's Event Network
LAS VEGAS (N+I), -- Extreme Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:EXTR) , a leader in Ethernet networking, worked with more than a dozen participating partners to provide a resilient, scalable and highly available network that served as the backbone for this week's NetWorld+Interop Event Network (eNet). Extreme's Fourth Generation Silicon System (4GNSS) architecture made its debut providing wire-speed 10-Gigabit core Ethernet connectivity. The eNet was highlighted with a combination of wire-rate 10-Gigabit Ethernet on a highly available network that featured scalability, ACL security, and increased network resiliency delivered with Extreme's Ethernet Automatic Protection Switching (EAPS) capability. Extreme worked with partnering sponsors to build a scalable foundation for applications including VoIP, multicast video and streaming content. The network supported extensive multimedia delivering high-quality multicast MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 video streams and audio content. With its continued hardware sponsorship, Extreme proves how enterprise businesses and Metro service providers can rapidly build an advanced Ethernet infrastructure with multiple classes of service supporting a host of critical applications. The network provided connectivity for all attendees, staff and exhibitors at the show. Extreme's EAPS capability provides protection for services with sub 50-millisecond recovery. Core switches on the eNet were linked together on the ring, providing a physical transport mechanism using simple, standards-based Ethernet. This resulted in a carrier-class enterprise and Metro network without the need for pre-standard hardware such as DPT or RPR. With EAPS, VoIP, routing and various forms of content traffic are protected in the event of fiber cut, allowing applications and services to continue uninterrupted. "Extreme Networks has again shown customers the future of networking with the completion of NetWorld+Interop's eNet," said Duncan Potter, vice president of marketing for Extreme Networks. "We are proud to have delivered new levels of innovation with our ground-breaking products in conjunction with our participating partners." This year's eNet also delivered large-scale deployment of 10/100/1000Base-T to individual users at the edge of the network. To effectively deploy this high-bandwidth service, Extreme also utilized the integrated cable diagnostics available with its Triumph(TM) third-generation modules for the BlackDiamond(R) switch.
