Force10 Networks Highlights Interoperability
Force10 Networks, the pioneer in building and securing reliable networks, will highlight eco-efficiency as a practice of balancing escalating power consumption against business requirements through a holistic approach to designing the data center at Interop 2008 in Las Vegas from April 28-May 1. Force10 will also showcase critical enterprise networking technologies in demonstrations that highlight standards-based interoperability. At a time when power continues to consume more of the IT budget, technologies such as virtualization, 10 Gigabit Ethernet and iSCSI are increasingly being utilized in the data center. Yet the impact of these technologies on power consumption has not been fully examined. On Wednesday, April 30, Force10 will explore how various critical technologies impact the effort to design efficient data centers in a session titled, “Building the Eco-Efficient Data Center: The Fine Line Between Serving Business Goals and Meeting Resource Constraints.” The session is open to all Interop attendees and will take place in Reef E from 11:15 a.m.-12:00 p.m. “As enterprise and data center architectures become more complex, it is essential to demonstrate solution interoperability to provide customers with the confidence to deploy next generation technologies that can improve network reliability and eco-efficiency,” said Stephen Garrison, vice president of marketing at Force10 Networks. “As more bandwidth intensive collaborative applications are added to the network, power consumption will rise to unsustainable levels unless we address and implement eco-efficient designs today.” Force10 will also participate on Wednesday in an executive roundtable during the Ixia-sponsored session, “Higher Density, Converged Data Centers – GREEN is the New Black.” Executives from Ixia, Nortel and F5 will join Force10 in discussing how 10 Gigabit Ethernet plays a fundamental role in the successful deployment of key data center technologies such as virtualization and network automation. The session is in Surf E from 4:00-4:45 p.m. While data centers are struggling to balance escalating power consumption with business requirements, the emergence of new applications and services such as software as a service, VoIP and wireless LANs are challenging traditional designs of the enterprise network. To help IT managers deploy the solutions that provide the reliability, scalability and network control they require to build a flexible and dynamic network, Force10 is demonstrating interoperability of critical enterprise features, including Power over Ethernet and network access control (NAC). In InteropLabs, Force10 is demonstrating how IT managers can utilize the S50 access switch to authenticate and control user access with 802.1x. Designed to bring high performance reliability to the edge of the network, the Force10 S50 provides IT managers with the tools they require to control the traffic on their networks. The InteropLabs multi-vendor interoperability demonstration showcases a NAC deployment in a heterogeneous server and appliance environment designed to mimic a typical enterprise network. At the Ethernet Alliance booth, Force10 will showcase the interoperability of the S50V in a Power over Ethernet (PoE) demonstration. The Force10 S50V supports 15.4W of power across all 48 Gigabit Ethernet ports to enable customers to support VoIP and WLAN services in their wiring closets. Additionally, with LLDP and LLDP-MED, IT managers have visibility into the traffic and devices on the network. Force10 will also demonstrate interoperability with Finisar’s Laserwire solution, a low cost plug and play interconnect. Laserwire requires nearly 95 percent less power than 10GBase-T, resulting in lower cooling requirements. The Force10 S2410 supports 24 line-rate ports of 10 Gigabit Ethernet, allowing organizations to efficiently connect directly to servers at 10 Gigabits per second. Together, the Force10 S2410 and the Laserwire interconnect enable organizations to cost effectively optimize high performance computing resources. The Force10 Reliable Networking product portfolio will be on display at Interop in booth 1931. With advances in reliability, network control and scalability, Force10 delivers the flexibility IT managers require to support application needs today as well as in the future.
