Digipede, Lockheed Martin team up to deliver geospatial applications

Digipede Technologies announced that Lockheed Martin has grid-enabled its TOPSCENE mission rehearsal applications using the Digipede Network. The grid-enabled version of TOPSCENE will soon be installed at the Naval Strike Air Warfare Center (NSAWC) at Naval Air Station Fallon, NV, resulting in a dramatic increase in the speed and throughput of complex calculations required to produce accurate terrain maps for three-dimensional scene creation. "The Navy's need for high-performance mission visualization simulations is increasing exponentially," said Alan Herod, U.S. Navy TOPSCENE program lead. "We've been very pleased with the performance delivered by the new grid-enabled version of TOPSCENE. It is already one of the fastest tools out there, but this puts us in an entirely different league. We were pushing the edge with commercial tools and individual workstations, but now we've already seen a 20-times speed-up in processing time. This changes the game for us - we're able to process more terrain with greater accuracy and speed. This is a significant benefit for the operational user." "Our defense clients have mission-critical requirements for turnaround time, most notably for producing accurate terrain simulations in near real time," said Mark Wear, software engineering manager at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control. "The new TOPSCENE brings unprecedented scalability and performance to our market-leading geospatial applications. Our customers will see large performance gains without major redesign. As our customers continue to require greater levels of detail and realism, we are providing them with greater scalability and performance." Digipede Technologies CEO John Powers adds, "Working with market leaders like Lockheed Martin brings tremendous value to our mutual customers. By combining state-of-the-art geospatial software products and services available from Lockheed Martin with the scalability of the Digipede Network, the defense and intelligence community can deploy high-performance applications more easily than ever before. Lockheed Martin brings us a unique combination of market reach and deep expertise in visualization simulation. We are pleased to partner with them for important engagements with major defense and intelligence customers." "Microsoft's partners are building incredible solutions on these new technologies," said Allison Watson, corporate vice president, Worldwide Partner Group, Microsoft. "Our partners are the critical link to delivering customer value and solving complex industry, research and core business challenges. By working closely with partners like Digipede, we are transforming the way people work and delivering on the promise of People Ready software." The Digipede Network is an affordable distributed computing solution built entirely on Microsoft .NET that dramatically improves the speed and performance of demanding real-world business applications. Integrated with Microsoft SQL Server, Visual Studio, Windows HPC Server, and other Windows Server products, the Digipede Network is radically easier to buy, install and use than other grid-computing solutions. The Digipede Network is the only grid computing solution Certified for Windows Server 2008. Using the Digipede Network, businesses can easily achieve the benefits of grid computing, including improved IT agility and increased application scalability. Developers can write .NET or COM applications that will take advantage of hundreds or thousands of computers, bringing the power of grid computing to the Windows platform.
