NBC Universal Uses OnFiber's State-of-the-Art Networks
OnFiber Communications, the premier source for purpose-built networks, today announced that it has designed, built and is operating networks for NBC Universal in its primary production markets of New York City and Los Angeles. The overall solution was specifically designed to support NBC Universal's specialized broadcasting applications related to recording and archiving video and web content. "When NBC first learned about OnFiber's unique approach to creating networks designed for our needs, we were intrigued," said Darren Feher, chief technology officer of NBC Universal. "But the true test came down to performance and reliability. Throughout the entire process, OnFiber has lived up to its strong reputation and we have been extremely pleased with the results." OnFiber's managed transport services are supporting many of NBC Universal's key specialized media applications. One example is digital news archiving. NBC Universal currently relies on OnFiber's connectivity to move digital video files from production spaces in New York City to its large digital tape archive in New Jersey. Access to the archives is provided to NBC Universal through OnFiber's Wavelength service running Fibre Channel protocol. "Because we have a solid understanding of the media and broadcasting industries, we were fully prepared to deliver a unique wavelength solution that met all the necessary requirements in a short timeframe," said Mohammad Fattah, vice president of business development, OnFiber. "By managing the high speed interconnections between NBC's corporate locations, OnFiber is directly supporting NBC's ability to run key media applications and efficiently control the vast amount of information that needs to be stored, accessed, recorded, or published." OnFiber's solution leveraged the company's unique AdaptiveBuild process to produce the optimum network to meet NBC Universal's stringent requirements in the areas of diversity, security and performance. The design incorporated OnFiber's existing networks in the New York City and Los Angeles metropolitan areas, dark fiber from other carriers, and newly constructed network purposely built for NBC Universal. OnFiber is the single point of contact for the entire solution which is backed by an industry leading service guarantee. The networks have been operating as designed for more than a year.
