Juniper Networks Announces Expanded Deployment at Cox Communications
Juniper Networks today announced that Cox Communications Inc., a multi-service broadband communications company with over 6.6 million customers, has expanded deployment of the company's networking and security solutions. Cox previously deployed Juniper Networks M- and T-series routing platforms to support multiple applications including peering, CMTS aggregation, high-speed Internet and video in metro core networks, transparent LAN services, Voice over IP (VoIP), video transport and internal IT transport. Building on this initial success, Cox is now deploying the M320 multiservice edge routing platform in 14 regional data centers. Additionally, Cox is deploying the Juniper Networks NetScreen ISG-2000 system, which provides linear performance across any packet size to deliver a more secure and assured network experience. "We feel good about the decision to expand our deployment of networking and security products from Juniper Networks, as they've consistently proven to provide high levels of performance, reliability, security and scale which we require to best serve our customers," said Randy Kinsey, manager of Network Engineering and Architecture at Cox. "As we continue to offer more advanced services, a highly secure and reliable infrastructure is critical to our success. We rely on Juniper Networks and their high-end networking and security solutions to best meet our ever-changing customer requirements." With end-users demanding more stringent service level agreements (SLAs), Cox required a significantly more robust and reliable network. After extensive testing, Cox chose to replace its legacy routers with the M320 to increase reliability in their national IP/MPLS backbone, enabling higher-quality SLAs. The Cox national high-speed IP/MPLS network runs mission-critical applications, such as long distance voice traffic and signalling and provides the foundation for future advanced services. The M-series routing platforms boast JUNOS modular software and a modern architecture that ensures multiple services can run on a single IP/MPLS infrastructure with security, stability, scalability and low operational costs. "Leveraging advanced features in JUNOS, such as class of service (CoS) and MPLS, the M320 delivers a solid foundation for the Cox national high-speed IP/MPLS network and dramatically increases network reliability," said Bruce Skoletsky, vice president, North American Cable Operations, Juniper Networks. "As the North American cable industry continues to ramp up to support major broadband IP-based multimedia service initiatives, such as Next Generation Network Access (NGNA), we're pleased that Cox has again turned to Juniper Networks to help deliver a more secure and assured networking experience to its customers nationwide." Cox has also implemented Juniper Networks security platforms for two critical applications: protecting key elements of Cox's IP/MPLS backbone and providing site-to-site IP VPNs. The deployment of the NetScreen ISG-2000 system will complement the existing integrated firewall/IPSec VPN products, which include the entire range of Juniper Networks security appliances from the NetScreen-5GT to the NetScreen-208, deployed to support the managed security service offered by Cox Business Services, the company's commercial services division. The NetScreen-ISG 2000 is a purpose-built, high performance system designed to deliver scalable network and application security. Integrating best-of-breed Deep Inspection firewall, VPN and DoS solutions, the product enables secure, reliable connectivity along with network and application protection.
