Sentarus Threat Management System to Protect SCI Networks
Growing Gaming Customer Base Requires Increased Protection Including Vulnerability Management, Intrusion Prevention Capabilities -- Demarc Security, a global provider of comprehensive threat management solutions, today announced that Super Computer International, Inc. (SCI), a development leader in multi-player gaming technology for the online gaming community, has selected Sentarus Dynamic Threat Management software to protect its networks. Super Computer builds and maintains high-speed back-end data servers that host multi-player online games. SCI launched high performance gaming in 2001 when it introduced Jupiter Cluster, one of the fastest clustered video gaming infrastructures in the world. "The number of online gamers will grow from about 47 million in 2003 to 127 million by 2008," said Eric Mantion, Senior Analyst with In-Stat/MDR. "While this may seem to be a small portion of the overall Internet population, with the advent of voice chat, increasingly larger gaming arenas, and other bandwidth consuming advances, online gaming will consume about 5.8 Exabits per month or 191 Petabits a day by 2008. That is a lot of data that will need to be handled by a lot of servers." With a steadily increasing number of customers on both the east and west coast as well as in the United Kingdom, SCI needed to expand its network security and 1monitoring capabilities to achieve total coverage. An existing PureSecure customer, SCI made the switch to Sentarus, Demarc's dynamic threat management solution, to take advantage of its higher performance capabilities and additional features such as vulnerability scanning, intrusion prevention, network monitoring and process regeneration, enabling the company to meet the demands of its growing customer base. "We maintain numerous gaming servers with http access that we must keep continuously running and protect from hacking attempts," stated Dan Johnson, vice president of networking for Super Computer, International Inc. "The vulnerability management that Sentarus provides is critical for us to identify and correct potential vulnerabilities before they can be exploited." Sentarus provides SCI with the ability to monitor file access and vital services on the host level as well as identify and pre-empt network attacks as they occur in real-time. With Sentarus, SCI can alter firewall and router rules to block the access of attackers at multiple points throughout the global network and escalate the intelligent defense activity based on the number of attempted violations.
