Procket Networks Selected by Australia's National Research Network

Procket Networks announced that Australia's Research and Education Network (AARNet) has selected Procket Networks' PRO/8812 and PRO/8801 routers for its worldwide network build-out supporting 37 Australian universities and Australia's Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO). AARNet offers core internet transport as well as Voice and Video services over IP, in addition to other value-added services. Procket Networks' PRO/8000 router series will deliver unprecedented levels of performance for AARNET's new network applications while optimizing the cost of network operation. "We believe the Procket Networks' PRO/8000 router series will be critical to the success and growth of our service offerings. As a research entity, we needed a platform that gave us investment protection for future services like IPv6 and QoS. After a thorough technical and cost of ownership evaluation of the core router vendors, we selected the PRO/8812 and PRO/8801 routers, as these platforms offered AARNet headroom in terms of scale, future service growth, and cost of ownership," said Mary Fleming, Director of Business Development, AARNet Pty Ltd. "Procket is delighted with this partnership with AARNet, renowned for its innovation among the global research and education networks. Procket's leading edge router technology will enable AARNet to implement advanced data, voice and video services at high scale and reduced operating costs, offering a showcase for what next generation networks will require," said Roland Acra, President and CEO of Procket Networks. The PRO/8812 router is a carrier-class, high-performance core router with the highest interface density per rack of any router in the market. The system supports 960Gbps of switch capacity and 1.2 billion packets per second of forwarding performance for 12 line cards, each offering 40Gbps of interface capacity. The PRO/8812 router fits into half of a 7' rack. The PRO/8812 system is built on PRO/1, the router industry's only self-managing, fully modular system software and on fully programmable custom very large scale integration (VLSI) chip technology offering unmatched structural resiliency for customers.
