Gadzoox Networks Extends Slingshot Product Line and Introduces New Switch

SAN JOSE, CA -- Gadzoox Networks, (Nasdaq: ZOOX), a global supplier of intelligent Storage Area Network (SAN) products, today announced the Slingshot 4210, the newest member of the Slingshot 2Gb Open Fabric switch family. With 10 ports in a half rack wide, 1U high form factor, the Slingshot 4210 2Gb Open Fabric switch provides the highest port density in the smallest form factor available. Targeted at the growing Windows server cluster market, the Slingshot 4210 easily handles the high availability and serviceability requirements of server clusters being deployed today. For example, the half-rack width enables customers to place two Slingshot 4210 switches side-by-side in 1U to meet the high availability cluster requirement of "alternate path failover" with separate, redundant paths between storage and servers that are easy to manage and service. Additionally, the Slingshot 4210 provides investment protection for customers with the ability to scale up to 8 servers, which is two more than current cluster switches, and the capability to auto-negotiate between 1Gb and 2Gb speeds on every port. "Our OEM customers recognize that a large part of the growing SAN market is comprised of companies utilizing server clusters in their network to enable high availability for reduced cost," said Erik Ottem, senior director of product marketing for Gadzoox Networks. "The Slingshot 4210 provides our customers with the ideal server cluster switch that can both scale and enable high availability -- two of the most important features in the clustering market." The Slingshot 4210 will be demonstrated for the first time at HP World in Chicago and IBM Storage Symposium in Las Vegas, August 20 - 24, 2001. HP World Conference attendees will see backup and SAN management applications utilizing the Slingshot 4218 and Slingshot 4210 as the heart of the SAN, connecting two HP NetServers, an HP VA7100 disk array and an HP 2/20 tape library together. At the IBM Storage Symposium, the new Slingshot 4210 Fibre Channel switch will be used to demonstrate a 2Gb Open Fabric SAN with streaming media and serving up video-on-demand. The demonstration will feature 2Gb and 1Gb speeds between the Slingshot 4210, the 2Gb IBM ProFibre Storage Array DF4000J and the IBM Nefinity 4500 Server.
