SMC Networks today announced that it has been selected as a vendor for the Triton Resource, an integrated, data-intensive computing system being developed to support University of California San Diego and University of California researchers at the San Diego Supercomputer Center at UC San Diego.

Designed collaboratively with University researchers and computing specialists at the San Diego Supercomputer Center, Triton will incorporate SMC's TigerStack II 10/100/1000 Stackable Managed Switches with four Gigabit combo ports and two 10G uplinks (SMC8848M) into the installation and management network.

"We are very excited to be selected as a key vendor for this high-performance computing environment as it speaks to the key benefits of performance, reliability, functionality, and value that have come to define our high-end enterprise-class switches in the government, education and business sectors," explained Keith Alexis, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for SMC Networks. "The SMC8848M incorporates a host of advanced switching features and supports stacking to provide the performance and scalability that will enable Triton Resource to support demanding high-bandwidth applications today and well into the future."
