Napatech 40G network adapter now shipping

The recently announced Napatech 1x40 GbE NT40E2-1 intelligent network adapter has now been shipped to the first customer for evaluation. The NT40E2-1 is one of the very first commercial 40 GbE network adapters in the field.

“The interest in the NT40E2-1 is surprisingly high considering the early stage of this market”, said Henrik Brill Jensen, CEO, Napatech. “Our OEM customers are keen to be on the leading edge of development and be prepared for the data traffic increases expected over the coming years”.

Various market reports are showing that over the next 5 years, Internet traffic is expected to double every two years. In addition, traffic in data centers and mobile data networks are expected to grow even faster where it is forecast to double each year. It is these trends, which are driving interest in delivering 40 GbE appliances for network monitoring and analysis.

“40 GbE is available now to meet customers growing need for bandwidth, and this is driving many to adopt 40 GbE technology as it is seen to be simple and low risk compared to 100 GbE”, added Jensen. “The issue is that 100 GbE is not quite ready while at the same time traffic is growing tremendously. Many vendors can therefore not wait, but need to deploy 40 GbE solutions to meet customer’s bandwidth requirements”

Many network appliance applications for real-time network monitoring and analysis, as well as network security, face challenges in keeping up with high traffic rates, but the advanced acceleration features provided by the NT40E2-1 help OEM vendors to off-load data processing tasks to the network adapter allowing higher throughout performance and accelerated applications.

“Not only does the NT40E2-1 provide a high-speed physical interface, but it also provides the intelligence and acceleration features to help OEM vendors deal with the 10s of millions of packets per second that 40 GbE networks can generate”, stated Jensen.

Napatech’s NT40E2-1 capabilities and performance will be demonstrated at the Interop Las Vegasconference from the 8th to the 12th of May on Napatech’s booth (#739). For further information, contact Napatech at http://eu.vocuspr.com/Url.aspx?517692x4591779x2317277.
