IDG’s Computerworld Honors KOM Networks

In Their “Search for New Heroes”

IDG’s Computerworld Honors Program has announced KOM Networks as a 2011 Laureate. The annual award program honors visionary applications of information technology promoting positive social, economic and educational change.

“We are pleased that Computerworld Honors Program has recognized our company’s efforts to bring about social and environmental change while keeping in mind the technology needs of our customer in a down economy,” says Taher Shaath, CEO, KOM Networks. “As we celebrate our 42nd year in business we feel compelled to share our good fortunes and pave the road for others to pay it forward.  We are humbled by this honor and feel privileged to be recognized as an example that will hopefully inspire others to make a positive impact on our environment while giving back to the community.”

“The number and quality of nominations this year were very inspiring and demonstrate how valuable IT is to community change,” said John Amato, Publisher, Computerworld. “Computerworld is very proud to name the 2011 class of Laureates and showcase their initiatives benefiting society through innovative uses of IT.”

KOM Networks created the  Junk-A-Juke Upgrade Program to provide a very affordable vehicle to help customers overcome the upgrade costs for secure archive storage solutions without utilizing any capital expenditures while at the same time  responsibly recycle obsolete and antiquated storage (Optical, RAID, SAN  & NAS) including other electronic waste keeping it out of our landfills and donate the proceeds generated from the resale of usable components to Feed The Children US and Speroway (formerly FTC Canada) to help children in our own communities and around the world.  The Junk-A-Juke program offers budget constrained organizations in highly regulated industries an opportunity to exchange their obsolete and legacy archive storage equipment for a new KOMpliance Archive Storage appliance with equal capacity and superior performance free-of-charge with a three year maintenance agreement. KOM’s goal is to collect and recycle enough hardware to feed one million children!

“When times are tough, businesses need to be more responsible in helping out where they can, so KOM Networks tried to think about ways we could help. There are still large numbers of inefficient, slow, expensive obsolete archive and storage devices being used,” said Kamel Shaath, CTO of KOM Networks. “Our free storage upgrade to KOMpliance will increase efficiency, protect data, and lower liability, risk and TCO; but the opportunity to protect our planet for future generations and feed hungry children today is our motivation. With the broad appeal of the Junk-A-Juke program it has been expanded to include the trade-in of any storage device for eligibility. It is truly a win-win-win situation. Our customers benefit, in some cases saving as much as $200K from their operating budgets.  Collectively with our customers we remain responsible to the health of our environment and the future of our children. And most importantly, we are able to help feed less fortunate children in these hard economic times.” The Computerworld Honors awards will be presented at the Annual Laureates Medal Ceremony & Gala Awards on June 20, 2011 at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in Washington, D.C,
