Physicists Share Career Advice Online, May 23-27

If you've ever been curious about a career in physics, this week is your chance to learn more about the field and the work behind the scenes. The Quantum Diarists, about 30 physicists who share their real-life experiences on the Web, will answer questions such as What is it like to be a scientist? What do physicists work on? What do physicists do in their spare time? Physicists from universities and laboratories around the world will be on hand to explain what it takes to become a physicist, answering questions in half a dozen languages. Just submit your questions at www.quantumdiaries.org from Monday, May 23, to Friday, May 27, and a Quantum Diarist will respond. Quantum Diaries is a Web site that follows the lives of physicists from around the globe as they live the World Year of Physics, 2005. In their own words, in blogs, photographs and video clips, the Quantum Diarists give readers a real-time picture of the lives of physicists. Now the Quantum Diarists will also give career advice to physicist hopefuls during Quantum Diaries Career Week Online. The Quantum Diaries Web site was developed and is jointly maintained by the InterAction collaboration, whose members represent the world's particle physics laboratories in Asia, Europe and North America, with funding provided by the science funding agencies of many nations.
