Due to an overwhelming response, the SC|05 High Performance Computing (HPC) Analytics Committee today announced the extension of its application deadline to June 1, 2005. The HPC Analytics Challenge is a unique opportunity for industry, academia, government and other organizations engaged in sophisticated data analysis and visualization to develop and demonstrate applications showcasing powerful analytics techniques for solving complex, real-world problems. A wide range of stellar submissions of real-world analytics applications from around the world has already been received, including applications focused on earthquake research, predictive modeling, traffic analytics, and music mining. Finalists of the HPC Analytics Challenge will convene at SC|05, the premier international conference on high performance computing, networking and storage, from November 12-18 in Seattle. "We are excited about the significant interest in the HPC Analytics Challenge and are looking forward to a very intriguing Challenge contest at SC|05," said Maura McGinnity, SC|05 HPC Analytics Committee Chair and Visual Numerics' Vice President of Market Strategy and Corporate Development. "The HPC Analytics Challenge provides a great forum to showcase computational intensive applications that solve complex, real-world problems through the use of rigorous and sophisticated methods of data analysis and high-end visualization." The dramatic increases in performance, scalability, and overall computational power in high performance computing over the last decade, along with the need to make sense of massive amounts of data, have led to the growing interest in HPC Analytics. Historically the focus of the government and research supercomputing communities, HPC Analytics has now generated significant interest in mainstream business sectors. Submissions will undergo a peer review by select members of the HPC Analytics Committee, which is comprised of prestigious analytics experts from around the world.
