Penguin Computing Recruits Sun Veteran
Penguin Computing announced that Bill Cook joined the company as senior vice president of sales and services. Cook, formerly senior vice president (S.V.P.) of U.S. sales at Sun Microsystems, Inc., brings 24 years of in-depth experience in the high performance computing (HPC) and enterprise markets to this new position. In his new role, he will be responsible for driving aggressive revenue goals for Penguin Computing in the enterprise server and clustering segments. "In his 19 years at Sun, Bill played an instrumental role in taking Sun from a technical, HPC play to an enterprise play. He knows what it takes to grow a company from its technology roots to having broad, enterprise-wide appeal," said Enrico Pesatori, chairman and chief executive officer, Penguin Computing. "Bill's pedigree and knowledge of both the HPC and enterprise markets, coupled with his strong customer relationships, makes for a powerful combination that will help us grow our business amongst Fortune 500 customers and drive the benefits of Linux clustering further into the enterprise." "Bill has a tremendous track record in building and implementing successful sales strategies," continued Pesatori. "We are confident that his leadership will build on the solid base we have developed and really help us to scale and drive future growth." Before joining Penguin Computing, Cook ran sales for all Sun products and services in the United States for three years. Cook started his career at Sun in 1986, serving customers in the automotive industry. He rose quickly up the ranks to hold a series of executive positions, including several roles managing strategic geographies across the U.S. and building and leading worldwide sales for Sun's Global Network Storage Line of Business. Over the course of his career at Sun, Cook achieved many accomplishments including chairing Sun's Leadership Council and building Sun's global account model. Cook started his career with Datapoint Corporation as account manager for the Michigan territory. Cook has a B.A. in Marketing from Michigan State University. "This is a great opportunity to be able to bring to bear all that I have learned throughout my career and really make an impact on a company that is certainly one of the hottest properties in an extraordinarily hot market segment," commented Bill Cook, S.V.P. sales and services, Penguin Computing. "I am extremely excited about taking on a role that has such a significant part to play in Penguin Computing's accelerated growth. Penguin's sales team is amazingly talented and highly productive -- and it is largely responsible for the company's success to date. One of my first priorities will be to reinforce that solid foundation by implementing an efficient sales model and continuing to recruit the very best people and partners so that Penguin can continue to do an outstanding job with its customers as it scales." Cluster expert augments the product team Also joining the Penguin Computing team today is Clark Roundy, formerly vice president of international operations at Linux Networx. In his new role as V.P., cluster products, Roundy brings over 15 years of in-depth experience in the system software and Linux clustering fields. Roundy's addition to the team will boost Penguin's ability to accelerate its growth in the cluster market and help the company achieve its goal of more than doubling its cluster revenue by 2006. Before joining Penguin, Roundy's career spanned a number of senior roles at Linux Networx -- from sales and marketing, to professional services and, ultimately, operations for Asia and Europe. Prior to that, he held a variety of senior management roles with Alta Technology, Eyring and Ortho-Graphics.
