SC|05 Education Program Announces May Deadline

Applications are now being accepted through May 23, 2005 for the SC|05 Education Program. The theme for this year’s program is “Engaging and Empowering Educators: High Performance Classroom.” The SC|05 Education Program will offer a unique learning experience for teachers and students in Seattle, November 11-15, 2005. With the guidance of top scientists and preparatory training specialists, undergraduate faculty, middle and high school teachers, and students will form teams of nine, and complete on-site research projects to develop new teaching modules that involve the use of high performance computing (HPC). Applications for individuals and smaller teams are also being accepted in which case team formation will be facilitated upon selection. The focus for participants this year is to promote and apply computational science across a variety of content areas, including: • Nanotechnology • Life Sciences • Visualization • Earth and Atmospheric Sciences • Computer Science • Mathematics • Chemistry • Physics All instruction will be integrated with existing national and state science and mathematics teaching standards. These teams will be exposed to hands-on tutorials that focus on how HPC applications such computer modeling and visualization and data analysis can be applied to enhance classroom learning. Educators and students will gain experiential knowledge based on proposed on-site projects that demonstrate how to leverage, and use, networked computing systems in their classrooms. An additional benefit is the participants’ exposure to leading industry, academic, and research programs as part of the SC|05 conference. The SC|05 Education Program is made possible by a combination of financial support and time commitments from many people at many organizations. Please visit its Website for the list of partners.
