CA Ships Advantage CA-Datacom r11 for z/OS

Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA) today announced general availability of Advantage CA-Datacom r11 for z/OS, a powerful, Web-enabled database platform that supports some of the largest and most reliable transaction processing systems in the world. Advantage CA-Datacom r11 delivers advances in performance, ease-of-use and flexibility, enabling customers to protect their existing investments while responding to dynamically changing business requirements. The new version underscores CA's continuing commitment to Datacom technology, used by prominent organizations such as State Street Corporation, which require extremely high performance and reliability for mission-critical applications. Advantage CA-Datacom r11 delivers: * Enhanced SQL support for increased compatibility with open system tools using ODBC/JDBC. * Distributed transaction support for applications across multiple tiers. * Table partitioning for enhanced data availability and 24x 7 operations. * 64-bit virtual storage support for improved performance. * Around-the-clock access that allows utility processing to occur against part of a database while the rest is available for user processing. * Increased data availability when running multiple database environments or multi-user facilities (MUFs). Advantage CA-Datacom r11 can scale to handle extremely high-volume processing requirements -- including concurrent online transaction processing, batch job activity, and transactions from diverse distributed-platform applications. Advantage CA-Datacom r11 supports Resource Recovery Services, which provides data integrity for applications accessing more than one data resource. Storage administrators can now monitor the size of their databases and analyze their storage trends through enhanced integration with CA's BrightStor Storage Resource Manager, which enables optimization of storage resources and server consolidation by providing information about data location, value and redundancy. State Street Corporation, one of the largest financial institutions in the world, is using Advantage CA-Datacom for management of a high volume of mutual fund accounts. "CA continues to help State Street meet the business demand for continuous availability of its high-volume mainframe environment," said Madge M. Meyer, executive vice president of Technology Infrastructure Services at State Street Corporation. "Advantage CA-Datacom r11 contains major availability enhancements -- such as support for Resource Recovery Services, partitioned database support, and a reduced need for offline database maintenance -- which contribute to State Street's ability to deliver 24-hour availability to our worldwide client base." The new release also provides extended support for data access and data sharing, further enhancing data availability and integrity for customers running several Advantage CA-Datacom environments in a Sysplex. "Our customers need to fully protect their businesses against potential interruptions in their critical database systems while optimizing infrastructure resources," said Richard Bolesta, vice president of database management at CA. "Advantage CA-Datacom r11 delivers this protection and preserves existing IT investments in systems and applications." Advantage CA-Datacom is available for z/OS, OS/390 and VSE environments.
