CA Pledges Support for Department of Homeland Security

Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA) announced its support for the National Cyber Alert System unveiled today by the National Cyber Security Division of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). As a major global vendor of security management solutions, CA applauds the initiative driven by the DHS to increase awareness of cyber security threats, best practices, patch and remediation instructions, and other security information, helping to minimize the disruptive impact of cyber attacks on the nation's information infrastructure and services. CA has been a long-time proponent of cooperative public-private sector security initiatives, including those focused on early threat detection, development of preventative technologies and promulgation of best practices. Unprotected personal computers connected to the Internet present a particular threat to the general public, since they can be used to propagate large-scale attacks. By taking an aggressive role in educating the country's PC users about active threats and associated remedies, the DHS's National Cyber Alert System is intended to play a significant role in limiting the spread of such attacks. "It is very exciting to see the Department of Homeland Security providing the American people with a trusted system for getting timely information about vulnerabilities, outbreaks, preventive measures, and remediation," said Ron Moritz, CA's chief security strategist. "CA will do everything possible to ensure the success and effectiveness of the National Cyber Alert System." CA is a founding member of the Information Technology-Information Sharing and Analysis Center (IT-ISAC), which provides the analysis and sharing of sensitive and trusted cyber threat, vulnerability, incident and response information within the IT sector and with government. CA also co-chairs the National Cyber Security Summit Task Force on Security Across the Software Development Life Cycle and supports the Summit's Early Warning Task Force -- partnerships with industry and government intended to dramatically expand the country's national cyber security posture.
